Sean “Slush” McDermott
Sean grew up in Stony Point, N.Y. and while attending S.U.N.Y New Paltz joined the New Air National Guard as a Crew Chief on the C-5A Galaxy. He graduated with a B.A. and History and ten days later started Aviation Officer Candidate’s School in Pensacola FL. His first fleet assignment was as a C-2A Greyhound pilot with VRC-30 Det 5 in Atsugi, Japan. He did back to back sea tours as a “Super J.O.” with the Rawhides of VRC-40 in Norfolk, VA. Next, he flew the TA-4J Skyhawk with the VC-8 Redtails in Roosevelt Roads, PR. He then reported back VRC-40 for his DH/OIC tour. His staff tours include Joint Forces Command and two tours at Naval Air Systems Command. He commanded both VRC-40 in Norfolk and DCMA Japan in Atsugi, Japan where he flew the C-12. He retired in 2017 and is now a First Officer flying 737s for American Airlines.
